America's Greatest Inventor - Thomas Alva Edison , also a business man was one of the first inventors to apply the principles of organized science and teamwork to the process of invention .

Born in Milan (Ohio) , Edison loved studying . He attended school only for a few months but continued studying under his mother's supervision .

He became a telegraph operator at the age of 13 which inspired him .

He developed interest in experiments and started experimenting with various chemicals .

He developed hearing problems at a young age . The main reason for his problem was his scarlet fever which he had during childhood.

He could not hear anything from his left ear and was 80 percent deaf in the right ear . So we can say that he was not completely deaf but he was hard of hearing.

Unhappy with all his jobs , he wanted to do something for the society. Having an inbuilt scientific attitude , he wanted to invent something that would prove as a big life change for the future generation.

He invented many devices like phonograph , motion picture camera and the light bulb.

A very interesting thing is that as Edison was hard of hearing , he used to listen to a piano or music player by biting into the wood to absorb the sound waves into his skull .
