Hima Das #BlogchatterA2Z

Hima Das was born on January 9, 2000 in the Kandhulimari village near a town called Dhing (Assam). I think this is the reason for her being known as 'Dhing Express'.

She went to the Dhing Public High School for her education. In her school , she loved to play Football with the school boys and dreamt about representing India in Football . But her first coach Nipon Das saw her hidden talent of being a runner and convinced Hima to opt for sprinting.

For further practice , her family sent her to Guwahati when she was only 16 .

In 2018, Das competed in the Commonwealth Games in the 400 metres and the 4x400 metre relay at Gold Coast, Australia.
On 12 July 2018, Das won the 400 metres final at the World U-20 Championship held at Finland. She took 51.46 second to complete the race and she became the first Indian athelete to win a Gold metal at an International track event .

She participated in many other events and competitons as well and won 5 Gold medals within the period of 19 days at the age of 19.
She also became the second athlete from Assam to win a gold medal at an international event.
She was awarded the Arjuna Award on September 25 , 2018 by the President of India.
