PT Usha was born in a village named Payyoli (Kerala) on June 27 , 1964.
Her full name is Pilavullakandi Thekkeparambil Usha . Quite difficult to pronounce . Right ?
Her family's financial conditions were very poor and she also faced a number of health issues during her childhood.
But her passion for sports really helped her.....
Once Usha was receiving an award at a prize distribution ceremony where coach OM Nambair noticed her.
He said that he was impressed by Usha's lean shape and fast walking style.
This was a major event that completely changed her life .
Within months of the ceremony , Coach OM Nambair started training her .
She then never looked back even after a break of 4 years .
She is now revered to as 'Golden Girl'. She has also been nicknamed 'Payyoli Express' and is known as the 'Queen of Indian track and field'.
She has participated in events like Olympics , Asian games and many more and has also won as many as 101 international medals .
She has also been awarded with a number of awards including the Arjuna Award and the Padma Shri.
Today , she owns a school in which she provides free training to the children who have talent but lack the resources . In the school the children are also provided free stay and food .

I remember listening about her in news and reading in newspapers. I didn't know about her school. Such noble act.
