The martyr still on duty-Baba Harbhajan Singh #BlogchatterA2Z

‘A true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him but because he loves what is behind him’

Soldiers really deserve our salutes. They are always ready to fight for our country under any circumstances to keep us safe.

Today , I am going to tell you the story of a great soldier who till date protects our country – Baba Harbhajan Singh.

Baba Harbhajan Singh

This might sound pretty normal to you. Right ?

Well then , let us have a look at his story to see what makes him special.

Born in a small village of Sadrana in Punjab, Harbhajan Singh aspired to become a soldier.

After completing his education , he enlisted as a soldier in Amritsar and joined the Punjab Regiment.

He was posted around the Sino-Indian border. While he was carrying supplies to the remote outpost , he drowned in a glacier which led to Singh’s death at the young age of 22.

Finding the martyr’s body was very hard and it took a 3-day search to find it.

It could have taken much longer to find his body but it didn’t because Singh himself  told where the body was.

Surprised. Aren’t you ?

It is said that when the soldiers had difficulty in finding his body , Martyr Harbhajan Singh himself came in one of his fellow soldier’s dream and told him where his body was. His body was found on the same place as told by Singh and his body was cremated with full military honours .

Not only did Singh help the soldiers to find his body but even today he  comes in fellow soldiers’ dreams to warn them about any attack by China at least 3 days in advance.

A fun thing is that all the soldiers who sleep on duty or do not maintain discipline get a tight slap from Baba.

He is revered to as the ‘Hero of Nathula’ by the soldiers of the Indian Army. His believers have accorded him the status of Baba (Saint).

His body may have left the world but his soul is still on active duty.

During the meetings conducted between China and India , a chair is always kept vacant for Harbhajan Singh Ji in belief that he attends all the meetings.

He has been serving the nation for over 40 years now and just like a normal soldier he also gets a 2 month leave and on 11th September every year , he and his belongings are respectfully taken back to his village. In the train , a seat is reserved and kept empty for him .

Also , Singh’s salary is received by his mother every year.

A shrine has also been built in his name in Sikkim.

We as Indians are very lucky to have such patriots in our country .
