Jal Mahal - A palace with 4 underwater floors #BlogchatterA2Z

A fort about which not many know about , the Jal Mahal or the Water Palace.

The Jal Mahal

It is located in the middle of the Man Sagar Lake in the Pink city of India, Jaipur .

The Mahal was first built in 1699. The Man Sagar Lake is artificially built and so after many years , in the 18th century, Maharaja Jai Singh II renovated and enlarged both the palace and the palace.

It showcases the beauty of the Rajput culture and architecture . It overlooks the abode of tigers or the Baragarh hills .

The palace is a 5 storied - red sandstone structure out of which 4 stories remain submerged underwater when the lake is full. Only the top most floor is visible which includes the roof .

Looking at the worsening condition of the palace, the Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation decided to take matters into its hands and improve the palace's condition .

The project's expenditure or investment is estimated to be around Rs. 1.5 billion .

People are prohibited from entering the inside of the palace but it's view from the lakeside is beautiful enough for your pictures !

  1. Jal Mahal looks beautiful in the picture. It would be a blessing if the government could do something to restore it and protect it as well.

  3. Looking at this palace always make me have mixed feelings. On one side I'm happy that its closed for public access and I'm sad that I can't see it from the inside.
