Kumbalgarh Fort - The Great Wall of India #BlogchatterA2Z
The Great Wall of India , where you can easily spend a day looking around at the fort 's beautiful and picturesque locations . The Fort is none other than the Kumbhalgarh Fort .
It is located in Udaipur City of Rajasthan , India .
The fort was built by Rana Kumbha in the 15th century with the help of the chief architect Mandan .
The fort is known to be the birthplace of Maharana Pratap Ji .
Kumbhalgarh Fort is located 3600 ft above the sea level in the Aravalli Range .
The walls of the fort are about 15ft thick . The fort has seven fortified gateways with over 70 temples !
Now you must be wondering that if the fort contains over 70 temples , how widespread would it be ??
Well , the walls of Kumbhalgarh Fort extend to a perimeter of 36 kilometres making it the second Largest wall in the world after the Great Wall of China . Hence , it is named the 'Great Wall of India ' .
Some people believe that Maharana Kumbha used to light up huge lamps daily in order to provide light to the peasants who would work during the night . This would demand 100 kilograms of cotton and 50 kilograms of Ghee !
At present , the Rajasthan Tourism Department organises an annual festival in order to commemorate the dedication or passion of Rana Kumbha towards art and architecture . These fests also include concerts and light and sound shows .
As fascinating as it seems on reading about it , the fort is more astounding in real life . I can say so because I have been to the fort and experienced its beauty.
As I mentioned earlier , one can easily spend an entire day there without getting bored . Let's have a look at some mesmerizing clicks :
