XIII San Rideau fort #BlogchatterA2Z

XIII San Rideau is an armored fort belonging to the outer ring of the Przemyśl Fortress. 

The fort was built in the 1892-1896 which cost about 5 million crowns.

It had the shape of a trapezoid with a base of 250 m and a width of 90 m surrounded by a dry , full-profile moat . 

The barracks and combat building housed living quarters for the crew, ammunition and food warehouses, laboratories , toilets and kitchens.

The walls and ceilings were made of concrete cast except some which were made of bricks .  The total area of ​​the fortress rooms was 2,200 m²

During a siege , the fortress was surrendered. It was further damaged during the following siege . The fort kept getting demolished and its further deconstruction was stopped in 1968 when it was considered as a legally protected architectural monument .
